Where silence became the loudest voice
I wasn’t looking for noise, landmarks, or crowded places people insist you must see. That weekend, I only wanted to breathe clean air, the kind that enters your lungs gently, and to disappear into a calm, forgotten corner where silence could exist without explanation.
What surprised me most is that I didn’t travel to France with a long list of destinations. I traveled because this place had already settled in my mind. Le Jardin des Plantes of Nantes had been whispering quietly for days, slowly taking away my will to resist. It wasn’t a decision made loudly or rationally, it felt inevitable, as if the journey had chosen me first.
Entering a world that asks you to slow down
From the moment I stepped inside the garden, silence became the protagonist. Not an empty silence, but a living one, shaped by leaves moving softly, distant footsteps that seemed careful not to disturb anything, and an atmosphere where time itself felt slower.
My shoes almost felt shy touching the ground, as if even they didn’t want to break that fragile harmony. I was looking for freedom, yet I felt completely captivated. Two contradictory feelings lived together: the desire to wander endlessly and the quiet acceptance of being held
by the place.
I was fully aware of the ground beneath my feet, yet strangely separated from reality, present and elsewhere at the same time.

A garden that felt entirely mine
“It wasn’t a long trip, but it was long enough to notice what usually goes unnoticed.”
There were only a few visitors that day. No rush, no loud voices, no endless phones raised for photos. For long moments, the garden felt like it belonged only to me.
I don’t know how many hours passed. Time lost its shape between shaded paths, unexpected corners, and plants that seemed carefully placed yet completely natural. Benches appeared exactly where you needed them, inviting you to sit without any obligation to do anything else.
There are cafés and places to eat nearby, but hunger felt distant. The atmosphere itself was
nourishing.
This wasn’t a place to consume quickly. It was a place to stay.
The quiet magic of small moments
As I walked deeper, nostalgia arrived early, before I had even left. That strange sadness that comes when you already know a moment will soon become a memory.
A very soft rain began to fall, almost politely, lasting only a few minutes. I stopped, looked up,
and saw the sun hesitate behind the clouds, shy but present, unsure whether to interrupt the moment. When the rain stopped, everything felt fresher, calmer, more intimate.
I remember turning back more than once, already certain of something simple and powerful:
this was the first visit, but not the last.
From garden paths to warm cafés
On my way back to the hotel, still wrapped in that calm, I stopped at a small café. The smell of
freshly made coffee filled the room, mixing with the sweetness of crêpes.
I ordered one with chocolate and sat quietly while a calm version of The Four Seasons played in the background. Nothing extraordinary happened, and that was exactly the beauty of it.
Moments like this don’t shout. They whisper. And you listen.
Leaving, but not really
Later, returning to my country, I found myself wondering what the next stop would be. Would it be more magical than this garden? Or simply magical in a different way?
Some places don’t compete. They stay with you quietly, calling you back without urgency. Le Jardin des Plantes does exactly that. Even now, it feels less like a place I visited and more like a place that is waiting.
About Le Jardin des Plantes & Nantes
Le Jardin des Plantes is one of Nantes’ most cherished green spaces, located just steps from the city center. It blends botanical richness with artistic touches and peaceful pathways, offering an experience that feels both curated and free.
Nantes itself mirrors this balance. Its streets are clean and walkable, its rhythm calm without being dull. The people feel respectful, quietly curious, and unhurried. It’s a city that doesn’t rush to impress, and perhaps that’s why it leaves such lasting impressions.
This garden becomes unforgettable not because of grandeur, but because of how it makes you feel: grounded, calm, and gently reminded that silence can be one of the most powerful experiences we have

“Untouched Odyssey is a collection of real places, seen slowly. Photographed as they are, remembered as they felt.”
